When did you start running?
I started running in 2008/9 when my aunt was dating my now uncle who was a keen runner and triathlete. He was encouraging her to run and I somehow got roped in as well.
Why did you start running?
I hated running and all sports in school – I was the girl always with the excuse to get out of PE. In upper 6th all my friends were doing the Belfast Marathon Relay for charity and I refused to take part stating “I don’t run” so one of the guys had to do two legs. (The same guy who I persuaded to run the full thing last year with me running the final miles with him). A few months later my aunt and uncle had me out running every weekend. I started to enjoy the fitness and seeing the improvement in my times and ability so I joined Larne AC for several years before transferring to the Dubs when I moved to Belfast.
What is a typical training week for you?
During lockdown there is nothing typical about my training. But last year I would have ran 2-3 times a week and rowed 2-3 times as well with some strength training with my PT squeezed in.
What is your favourite Dub training session?
I enjoy running around the meadow in the summer or a good session at Mary Peters Track when you feel like you are really pushing yourself. Tuesday nights in the summer are definitely my favourite Sessions.
What has been your favourite race(s) to take part in?
A really under appreciated favourite of mine is Ballymena Belles 5 mile race. The last 2 or so miles is all down hill so you really feel like you are flying into the finish line. I also love Larne Half as it was my first Half and also my “home” race. Knowing the route so well and having so many familiar faces both running beside and supporting along the way always gives me a real push.
What are you running goals?
I really want to get sub 25 mins for a 5km. I have been chasing that goal for a few years now. I also love the idea of doing a few more races abroad.
Tell us something random about yourself that people might not know!
I’m actually quite good at Blackjack (and frankly, a little addicted). Been to Las Vegas 5 times and spent days in the casinos each time.
